I have lots of memories of my dad, but if I had to give a favorite it might be surprising. When I has young and we lived in Fairfield, Nebraska we would often drive the two hours to Lincoln to visit some friends of my parents and eat at some really good places. Yet, the thing I remember the most is Dad dropping off Mom and my brother and sister to go shopping while he and I went off on our own. Dad would always go by Radio Shack and look different HAM radios and maybe buy a couple of parts or things. After that we would go to the bowling ally. We didn’t bowl. We would go sit at the counter and order a burger, fries, and a drink. We would eat, talk, and watch the bowlers. Once we were done we’d do a couple of other things, like once going going to the state capital building, and then go pick up the rest of the family.

Dad and I would always be close and I know a lot of it had to do with those bowling ally trips of just him and me being together. It didn’t matter that we didn’t play the game, we were together and that’s all I needed.
